There are as many ways to celebrate life's events - weddings, re-commitment ceremonies, baby naming ceremonies - as there are people celebrating. Your ceremony should be about you - together we'll make that happen.

Getting your Marriage License

You will need to provide a valid Massachusetts-issued marriage license to me prior to the ceremony.

Both bride and groom must apply for the license together. This can be done at any Town or City Hall.

You must be 18 years of age and have some proof of identification.  You do not have to be a resident of the community where you apply for your license.

There is a three day wait period before the license can be issued. Once issued it to you, it will be good for 60 days. When you pick up your license please check it carefully to make sure all information is accurate, including the “not valid after” date, which should be later than you marriage ceremony date. When you pick up your license, please request that the issuing clerk provide you with a self-addressed envelope which I will use to return you signed license after your wedding.

If you apply for the license at the Stoneham MA Town Hall, I will be able to hand deliver your signed license back to Town Hall on the next business day, which will facilitate your receiving a certified copy of the marriage license (which is included in the cost of your application). There is no charge for this service.  If you apply for your license at any other clerk’s office, I will return it by certified mail on the next business day. (There is a $10 postage fee for certified mail.)

If you have not received a copy, I recommend that you contact the Clerk’s office several weeks after your marriage and request a copy of your Certificate of Marriage for your records.
